THC VS. CBD

Cannabis consumers have long prized potency (a high THC content) as one of the main factors that makes a particular strain more desirable. Though traditional demand for THC has caused an oversaturation of high-potency products, many consumers are starting to prefer less intense products that are lower in THC and higher in the non-intoxicating compound called cannabidiol (CBD).

THC and CBD are both cannabinoids derived from the cannabis plant, but they’re different in many ways that may influence your next dispensary purchase.

THC

THC and CBD are the two most prevalent cannabinoids present in cannabis, and they work by interacting with the receptors in the brain and body to create various effects. THC works by activating these receptors concentrated in the brain and central nervous system to produce intoxicating effects. These effects vary from person to person, but the most common effects are elation, relaxation, sedation, pain relief, energy, increased appetite, and drowsiness.

CBD

CBD also binds to cannabinoid receptors in your brain, but instead of activating these receptors, it inhibits them. For that reason, CBD alone does not have any psychoactive or intoxicating effects, but it can provide effective pain-relief, aid in promoting sleep, and help reduce anxiety. When used in conjunction with THC, users will experience a more subtle high and a reduction in paranoia or anxiety that some cannabis consumers may experience when consuming THC alone.
